Calliope State High School delivers an agricultural program throughout years 7-12.  We have a focus on developing our Agriculture department to ensure students are engaging with industry relevant topics, such as: horticulture, sustainability, agriculture-technology, agricultural science, and other related fields.

The agriculture program is supported by an Agricultural Plot on site which is home to cattle and chickens, as well as paddocks for cropping and an orchard.  The Ag Plot had   a major upgrade in 2025, including new facilities including a purpose-built agriculture shed and our cattle yards.
The long term plan is to develop a Cattle Club as part of this program, giving students the opportunity to parade and judge cattle at show circuit events.

Agriculture students at Calliope State High School will get hands on experience in sustainable water and land management in a partnership with Gladstone Water Board and Calliope Rotary Group.

The partnership agreement includes the use of 527-hectare parcel of land, provided by Gladstone Water Board, called Lambing Flats.

Students will graze a herd of cattle, owned by Calliope Rotary Group, at Lambing Flats while learning about farming practices using drones and other technology, effective land management, water management and conservation, stock control and erosion and pest eradication and management.

The Lambing Flats project will form part of Calliope State High School’s delivery of its sustainable practice units in the Australian curriculum.
